Speed Management Plan Update, October 2023

1 October 2023

The Infrastructure and Environment Committee met on 1 November. You can watch the recorded meeting below.

The committee considered community feedback from the consultation process and made these recommendations:

  • Reduce speed limits to 30km/h around urban and rural schools, based on school entrances and advice from schools.
  • Delay any speed limit changes in the CBD until decisions about the Inner City Revitalisation Plan are completed.
  • Keep the current speed limits across the rest of the district while awaiting new Government transport policies.

Council officers will prepare a final draft Territorial Authority Speed Management Plan, which will go back to the Committee for approval before submission to the Director of Land Transport in March 2024.
