Te Manawa ō Owhatiura trial project ended

9 March 2022

Thank you to all the local residents, families and school tamariki that took part in the Te Manawa ō Owhatiura trial, an Innovating Streets for People project.

Until November 2021, we collected community feedback on people’s experience on the trial, and how the trial elements changed the way people moved around the neighbourhood.

Based on this community feedback, there was plenty of support for a number of elements to be made permanent. As a result:

  • The crossing point on Larcy Road, outside the back entrance of Lynmore Primary School is being made into a permanent pedestrian crossing, and the planter boxes will be removed. With the construction of the new shared path along Larcy Road, pedestrians and cyclists will also be able to use this new pedestrian crossing to move across the neighbourhood.
  • The bollards and road artwork on Iles Road outside the front entrance to Lynmore School, will be left in place.
  • The two crossing points on Owhatiura Drive are being investigated for permanent solutions.

The Larcy Road reserve crossing point has been removed, as community feedback showed preference for the crossing point at the back entrance of Lynmore Primary School, instead.

At the Waitawa Road/Owhatiura Drive intersection the curb build-out bollards will be removed, and the plastic let downs will be replaced with permanent concrete let-downs built into the curb.

At the Kahurangi Drive/Owhatiura Drive intersections, the curb build-out bollards and yellow plastic let downs will be removed, as community feedback suggested.
