Rotorua Lakes Council is responsible for around 90 play spaces in our district. This includes destination play spaces, like the Lakefront Playground, local neighbourhood reserves, lakeside reserves, skate parks and basketball courts.

Our aim is to create play spaces that are fun, safe, inclusive and accessible for all ages - places where our community can connect, explore and thrive.

Planning new play spaces

When an existing playground reaches the end of its life, Rotorua Lakes Council renews it—replacing old equipment with a newly designed space that better serves the community.

Rotorua Lakes Council works with local residents, schools and iwi community partners, to ensure everyone has a voice in the design process. This collaborative approach helps create play spaces that reflect the unique character, needs, and aspirations of each community, fostering a strong sense of pride and ownership.
